The Hanging Garden is a vertical urban agriculture project launched by Djib’lce SARL in 2019 with the aim of producing green leafy vegetables all year round in the city of Djibouti. The aim of “Les Jardins Suspendus” is to produce only certain vegetables which could hardly be produced satisfactorily in rural areas of the country because of the unfavourable climatic conditions. Our productions are intended to replace imported products whose logistics and carbon footprint are very costly.
This project is therefore in synergy with existing producers in Djibouti, rather than in competition, with the ultimate aim of contributing to the country’s food security and reducing food imports.
The responsible production process, minimizes the use of water and energy through the use of solar with an online control of all production parameters.
What is vertical farming ?
Vertical farming is a capital- and technology-intensive production technique. On the other hand, it helps to achieve high levels of productivity, save water and reduce the negative impact of agriculture on the environment and human health.
In order to minimize the volume occupied, the plants are raised on several floors stacked on top of each other and lamps provide the light needs of the plants.
With 25 years of expertise in water treatment and temperature management for ice production, Djib’lce SARL has developed its integrated solution adapted to Djibouti conditions for production in a confined space whose all environmental parameters are monitored and controlled using software specifically developed for this purpose.
What market products?
All these products are only available upon prior reservation and on the basis of a regular supply agreement.

We only produce products that are imported to remain in synergy with the farmers of Djibouti.
